Taylor Lorenz Leaves Washington Post to Launch New Streaming Service That is Just Her Sobbing All Day
Taylor Lorenz, the Washington Post’s tech reporter known for her takes on internet culture and online drama, announced her departure from the newspaper today to pursue a new venture: a streaming service featuring nothing but live footage of her crying, 24/7. The platform, aptly named “Lorenz Tears,” promises a raw, unfiltered experience for viewers looking to witness “real-time emotional journalism.”
“I’ve decided it’s time to go independent,” Lorenz stated in a press release while dabbing at her eyes. “I want to give my audience direct access to my emotions without the constraints of traditional media. Plus, people seem to really connect with me when I’m sobbing uncontrollably on social media, so why not lean into it fully?”
The streaming service will offer multiple subscription tiers. For $4.99 a month, users can access the standard “General Weeping” stream, where Lorenz will cry over anything from Instagram shadow-banning to memories of middle school mean girls. The $9.99 “Ugly Cry Gold Package” includes zoomed-in closeups and real-time commentary from Lorenz on exactly who and what caused the tears. For premium subscribers, the “Super Sob” package offers a virtual reality experience, allowing viewers to feel as if they are right there with Lorenz, offering a tissue that she will dramatically reject.
Industry analysts are already comparing “Lorenz Tears” to other subscription services, noting its unique positioning in a crowded streaming market. “Netflix has Stranger Things, Disney+ has Marvel, and now Lorenz has emotional breakdowns,” said one media expert. “There’s definitely a niche here – I mean, it’s not every day you get to watch someone repeatedly fall apart over an offhand tweet.”
Critics, however, are less optimistic. Some skeptics suggest the platform might get repetitive after the third or fourth hour of Lorenz sobbing into her ring light about the latest TikTok dance craze. Yet Lorenz remains unfazed. “Sure, some people might say, ‘How much can one person cry?’ To those doubters, I say: Watch me.”
With its official launch scheduled for next month, “Lorenz Tears” has already garnered a significant following on social media, with thousands eagerly awaiting the chance to tune into the only streaming service that claims to “stream its creator’s stream.”
