Shaymus McLean
Shaymus McLean is the founder and publisher of Newzy. Born and raised in Cork, Ireland, Shaymus briefly joined the IRA in his early twenties when he mistakenly thought it was a drinking club. Arrested during a bomb planning meeting at a local pub, Shaymus spent two years in prison where he read the paper each day and thought “I’d like to be the one writing this some day.” Upon his release, Shaymus went to work at the Cork City Chronicle as a paper delivery boy and worked his way up to the paper’s obituaries editor within 8 years. Craving the press freedom that only can be found in America, Shaymus relocated to California to run the news desk for the Stockton News Reporter Paper of Record Daily where he fell in love with American journalism. Shaymus eventually followed his heart and launched Newzy. Newsy.com was taken and so was Newsly.com. Newsnewsnews.com wasn’t available either. Surprisingly, neither was newsnewsnewsnews.com. Newsnewsnewsnewsnews.com was available, but that seemed like it would be too long. So he settled for Newzy. And the rest is history.
