NFL ANNOUNCES THEY WILL REPLACE CONTROVERSIAL NATIONAL ANTHEM WITH ROTATION OF TAYLOR SWIFT SONGS BEFORE EACH GAME
In an unprecedented pivot that has left traditionalists clutching their foam fingers in despair, the NFL announced today that the contentious National Anthem will be replaced by a rotating playlist of Taylor Swift’s greatest hits before each game.
Commissioner Roger Goodell, in a press conference adorned with Swift memorabilia, declared, “We’ve realized that nothing says ‘American football’ quite like a pre-game serenade of ‘Shake It Off.’ This move is expected to shake off any political controversy like a bad defender.”
The decision comes after years of debate over players kneeling, sitting, or doing the Macarena during the National Anthem, a practice that has divided fans faster than a botched quarterback sneak on fourth and goal. “We figured, why not replace one form of expression with another? Plus, who can argue when ‘Love Story’ is playing?” Goodell chuckled, strumming an air guitar.
Insiders suggest the playlist might include:
- “Blank Space” – To represent the empty seats if fans decide to boycott.
- “Bad Blood” – Perfect for those intense rivalry games or when the refs make a questionable call.
- “You Belong With Me” – A nod to the fans who swear their heart beats only for their home team.
- “Shake It Off” – For when your star player is accused of deflating footballs or other minor infractions.
Fans have mixed feelings. “I came for football, not a concert,” grumbled Hank “FourthDown” Williams, a lifelong gridiron enthusiast, while adjusting his team’s cap, now bedazzled with Swift’s lucky number 13.
Meanwhile, Swifties worldwide are buying jerseys in droves, many of them puzzled but excited about this new ‘sport’ they’re about to follow. “So, is a touchdown when Taylor hits the high note in ‘Wildest Dreams’?” asked one new fan, eagerly trying to understand the rules.
Critics argue this could be the NFL’s most controversial play yet, potentially alienating the base that prefers their anthems with a side of patriotism, not pop. However, marketing execs are thrilled, predicting a surge in viewership from demographics previously untapped by the NFL, like the coveted ‘teenage girl who loves drama but not necessarily sports’ segment.
In response to the backlash, Goodell added, “If this doesn’t work out, we’ve got Kanye on speed dial for next season. Imagine starting a game with ‘Stronger.’ What doesn’t sideline you makes you stronger, right?”
As the NFL preps for this musical kickoff, one thing’s for sure: this season will have more than its fair share of love stories, bad blood, and perhaps, players learning to shake off tackles and controversies alike.
