Merick Garland Denies DOJ is a ‘Political Weapon’, Threatens Prison for Anyone Who Says Otherwise
In an astonishing turn of events that could only be described as peak 2024, Attorney General Merrick Garland has vehemently denied allegations that the Department of Justice has been weaponized for political gain. In a press conference that had all the sincerity of a cat professing its love for dogs, Garland stated, “The DOJ is as apolitical as my morning coffee,” which, coincidentally, is known to be as black as the humor in this situation.
Garland, with a straight face that would make poker champions envious, went on to clarify, “Anyone suggesting otherwise might find themselves enjoying the hospitality of our federal accommodations.” This statement was delivered with such a sweet smile, one might think he was inviting folks over for a tea party, not potentially threatening them with incarceration.
Critics, or as Garland might call them, “future guests of the state,” were quick to point out the irony thicker than the plot of a time-travel movie. Social media, particularly X, lit up like a Christmas tree in a dark humor festival, with posts highlighting the apparent contradiction. One user quipped, “Garland’s DOJ is independent, just like my diet starts tomorrow.”
In his defense, Garland argued, “We prosecute based on justice, not politics. If justice happens to align with our political goals, well, that’s just serendipity.” This was followed by a wink so exaggerated, it could be seen from space, leading many to wonder if the International Space Station caught it on camera.
The announcement has led to a surge in sales of “DOJ: Denial Of Justice” t-shirts online, with entrepreneurs capitalizing on what they call “The Garland Guarantee” – doubt the DOJ’s impartiality, get a room with bars, but no minibar.
Legal experts, speaking under the condition of anonymity due to sudden concerns for their accommodation preferences, noted, “This could either be the most audacious defense of judicial independence or the most transparent threat since ‘nice place you got here, shame if something happened to it.'”
Meanwhile, the public has started a new game show, “Who Wants to Be a Political Prisoner?”, where contestants vie for the chance to critique the DOJ and win a stay in what some are now calling “Garland’s Getaway.”
As the nation watches this unfold, one thing is clear: in the grand chess game of politics, Garland has moved his pawns in a way that says, “Checkmate,” but everyone else is wondering if he’s playing chess or a very elaborate game of satirical chicken.
