Disney Determined to Appeal to a Christian Audience with New Animated Series About Black Queer Jesusx Growing Up in the Segregated South
In a groundbreaking move, Disney has announced its latest animated series, “Black Queer Jesusx in the Segregated South,” a daring new show aimed at appealing to Christian audiences. The series follows a young Jesusx, a Black, queer version of Jesus, as he navigates life growing up in the racially segregated South of the United States.
Disney executives have high hopes that this unique take on a biblical figure will resonate with Christian viewers. “We believe ‘Black Queer Jesusx’ is a perfect way to connect with our Christian audience,” said Disney spokesperson Ray Lenz. “It’s got everything they love: Jesus, adversity, musical numbers, and of course, a happy ending. What could be more in line with Christian values?”
In the pilot episode, Jesusx faces the challenge of integrating the local all-white church while simultaneously dealing with the struggles of coming out as queer to a community deeply rooted in traditional values. “We wanted to show that Jesusx’s message of love and acceptance transcends all boundaries,” Lenz continued. “Plus, we’re hoping the show will appeal to a younger audience.”
To ensure authenticity, Disney has brought in a team of diverse writers and historians to capture the essence of the era. “We’ve hired some of the best minds from across the spectrum to make sure we get every detail right,” said Lenz. “And by ‘every detail,’ we mean ensuring that every Southern stereotype is presented in full force, complete with drawling accents and a suspiciously high number of banjos.”
Despite Disney’s enthusiasm, not everyone is thrilled about the new series. Christian groups have already begun organizing boycotts, arguing that the show is a gross misrepresentation of their faith. “This is an outrage,” said Reverend John Smith of the Coalition for Traditional Values. “Jesus wasn’t Black or queer, and he certainly didn’t grow up in the South. What’s next, Disney? Moses as a hipster barista in Brooklyn?”
Still, Disney is confident that “Black Queer Jesusx” will be a hit. They’re already planning a merchandising line, including “WWJXD?” bracelets and Jesusx action figures, complete with a rainbow sash. “We’re sure this is going to be big,” Lenz said. “Just like our past hits that nobody expected, like ‘Frozen,’ except this time with more religion and fewer snowmen.”
The show is set to premiere next spring, right after Easter, in a bold scheduling move Disney hopes will draw in viewers looking for an alternative to their usual religious programming. “We’re just trying to bring a little more inclusivity to the Bible,” Lenz concluded. “Because if there’s one thing that needs more diversity, it’s 2,000-year-old religious texts.”
