After initial outrage from fans in China over Rockets GM, Daryl Morey, tweeting an image supporting Hong Kong protestors, the Chinese government eventually realized people in China are supposed to be blocked from using Twitter and were only outraged after breaking the law.
“While we are all outraged at this disrespect to China and its authoritarian stronghold over American businesses, things would not have gotten so out of control if people didn’t use means to circumvent our block of Twitter in China,” said Communist Party spokesman Yu Go Campnao. “It is a delicate balance. We want to express our national outrage over this insult, but then we have to admit that many people use a website that is banned in China. These people must be taught to comply with our ways. Even if we forgive the NBA, we may have a much smaller audience available to watch games as we have no television in our labor camps.”
